Two Juveniles Arrested For Killing 12 Koi Fish At Delta College
STOCKTON - Two teenagers have been arrested in a late night Koi fish massacre at Delta College in Stockton. The attack was caught on surveillance video outside Danner Hall. It was a 20 minute attack that left 13 koi fish worth $15,000 dollars dead.
Delta groundskeeper Jesse Fonseca was the first to stumble upon the brutal scene, “There was a lot of blood and a lot of fins laying on the concrete,” he said. Fonseca then found a spear covered in blood and then six dead Koi under a deck a few feet away from the pond.
The attack and the two teens arrested this afternoon were caught on camera with spears and knives in their hands.
“It’s fairly distressing because it appears they came here for the specific reason to do that,” said Officer Jim Bock with Delta College Police. The fish killed were over 30 years old and have been at Delta College since the school landed at this location in Stockton. The Koi are typically eager to greet their legions of fans.
“Usually they go right away to where you’re standing thinking they’re going to get fed,” says Fonseca. Today, not so much. Even cloaked behind orange fencing, the scared fish huddled in the middle of the pond, away from the edge and away from attack. Fonseca calls the Koi are his friends and wants no mercy shown to the teens who slaughtered them.
